Twitter. It seems simple enough, doesn’t it? A worldwide network of 645 million people connecting, sharing and conversing like never before, it has become a crucial tool for journalists.

But trying to harness its opportunities for work and wading through the deluge of daily tweets can seem like a daunting task which threatens to gobble your precious time. Who do I follow? How do I find them? What’s a dashboard? How do I pinpoint updates important to me? Why are lists critical for my online relationships? How do I make myself stand out? Why will the hashtag help me? How do I get my messages in 140 characters or less?

If you want the answers to these questions and more, then the Social Media Training event organised by NUJ Brussels this June is a perfect starter.

Designed for journalists, writers, editors and communications professionals and sponsored by international communications firm Porter Novelli, this evening training session will provide the essential know-how to help make Twitter work for your business and get you closer to your key sources.

The tutorial will be led by Jeroen Gaudissabois, a digital media specialist at Porter Novelli. For the past 18 months, Jeroen has been harnessing the power of Twitter to develop social media strategies and gather intelligence for a number of the world’s most recognisable names, including HP, Pfizer and Douwe Egberts.
