1066 The Conquest - the novel
Saturday 2 May 2009, by Peter Fieldman
1066 The Conquest is not another history book but an historical novel combining fact and fiction which he hopes will interest readers of every generation. It is the story of how an illegitimate child who became Duke at eight years old on the death of his father grew up to become the most powerful feudal warlord in northern Europe, and in a medieval world full of conflict, treachery and intrigue, built a massive armada to lead the last invasion of England to take the crown.
In England, the events leading up to the battle of Hastings are perhaps less known than William’s reign as King. Even in France, his rise to power and conquest of England is glossed over in French school books as at the time Normandy was not part of France. Strange given that it was one of the rare occasions that France beat England. Look what Shakespeare did for Henry V at Agincourt.
Peter Fieldman has attempted to put the record straight and hopes to attract enough interest to have the book translated for the French market.
