Good night and good luck.

Having stood down as chair of the branch at last month’s AGM, this is my last blog post - cue heavy sigh of relief.

Whether our new chair Simon Coss will continue this I don’t know. It never generated a lot of feedback but at least it helped me keep track of what was going on.

I’ve posted my report to the AGM on the site too which includes my many thank yous and some final remarks. Just to summarise in case you can’t be fagged to read it: I am truly honoured to have been given the opportunity to be your chair. It’s great to be appreciated by your peers.

That is why I was also pleased to hear last week that my most recent book The User’s Guide to the Male Body has been short-listed for the Medical Journalists’ Association’s Open Book Award. Did you see that seamless shift from topic to topic?

Hell, I’m not even a member of their organisation. I imagine they’re all very scientific people with degrees in empiricism and hard sums. All will be revealed at the awards ceremony which takes place in London on the same night as this month’s branch meeting so think of me practising my ’looking pleased when someone else wins’ face. Hope to see you at a meeting soon.
